Axe 2 : Functioning of living organisms and socio-ecosystems, environmental health

Axe de recherche UPVD

This axis brings together the research activities of the University of Perpignan Via Domitia relating to the functioning and health of living organisms. The work of the laboratories focuses on environmental health as an interconnection between the health of different living beings and their environment. The unifying and intersectoral approaches between human health, animal health and ecosystem health as proposed by the “One Health” concepts, as well as the mechanistic approaches to the adaptation of organisms to environmental changes, are therefore central. Environmental health is understood in a broad sense, ranging from major global pandemics to the well-being of living organisms.

Researchers strive to understand how plants and animals function, the role of interactions between humans, animals and plants in relation to their environment, between hosts and pathogens, as well as in the evolution of living conditions and ecosystems. Particular attention is paid to adaptive dynamics and the resilience of psycho-socio-ecosystems.

Research in this area mobilizes numerous disciplines from the Life Sciences (LS) and the Human and Social Sciences (HSS). Collaborations are carried out within each of these major disciplinary fields but also in an interdisciplinary manner closely linking LS and HSS.

Sub-areas:
  • Environmental health, quality of life, sport-health
  • Resilience of psycho-socio-ecosystems
  • The functioning of living organisms, from molecules to socio-ecosystems
